Woordenrader

Vijf woorden, dertig seconden

Nederlands of Engels

Vragen of bugs?

Iets kapot? Een woord dat nooit herkend wordt? Of gewoon een goed idee? Kom langs.

Kom in de Discord

Shout the answer.
The game hears you.

A party word game for your voice channel. One player describes five words, everyone else shouts over each other, and the clock keeps running. Nobody has to press anything: a bot listens during the round and ticks off the answers itself.

How you play

Woordenrader runs inside Discord itself, in a window next to the voice chat. All you need is your voice.

  1. Get into a voice channel Four people or more: two teams of at least two, or there is nobody to guess for. On your own you can run a practice round.
  2. Launch the activity Hit the rocket icon (Activities) at the bottom of the voice channel and pick the game. Everyone playing does the same.
  3. Pick teams in the lobby Join a team, and as host set the language (Dutch or English), the scoring mode and the round length.
  4. Describe and shout Each round one player gets a card with five words and thirty seconds. You may not say the word itself, the rest of the dictionary is fair game.
  5. The game keeps score Shout a word correctly and it lights up straight away. If speech is not working, the describer just taps the word instead.
  6. Move your pawn Classic: count the words, roll the die (0, 0, 1, 1, 2, 2), subtract it and move that many spaces. First team to space 35 wins.

The rules, briefly

Five words, thirty seconds

One card per round, five words on it. The describer sees them, the guessers only see how long each word is. Want a bit more room? The host can make it 45 or 60 seconds.

Classic or points

Classic uses the board and the die: words guessed minus the roll. If your group finds the subtraction fiddly, play on points instead: one point per word, ten rounds, highest score wins.

Disagree? Take a vote.

After the round anyone except the describer can challenge a word. The table votes, and a majority takes the point away again. Exactly like at the kitchen table.

Dutch or English

Two original decks of a thousand words each. You pick the language in the lobby, and speech recognition listens in that same language.

Adding it to Discord

There are two ways. If you want the game to listen, the bot has to be in your server.

To a server, with speech

The recommended one. The bot sits in your voice channel and hears the answers. It asks for exactly two permissions: View Channel and Connect. Speak is deliberately not among them, because it never transmits anything.

Add to a server

Just for yourself

Add it to your own account and you can start it anywhere you are allowed to start activities, including a server that is not yours. No bot joins the channel, so nothing listens: the describer taps the correct words instead. The game plays exactly the same otherwise.

Add for me only

What the bot hears

Listening in is a lot to ask for, so here is exactly what happens.

It sits in the channel muted. The bot cannot play audio, it does not even have the permission.

It only listens during a round. Microphones open when the clock starts and close at the buzzer. In the lobby and between rounds nothing is open, and the game shows you when it is listening.

No audio is kept. Sound is passed straight through to the speech recognition service, turned into text there, and gone afterwards. Nothing is written to a disk, not by us and not by them.

Rather not? The host switches speech off in the lobby, and then the bot never joins the channel at all.

Which service does the recognition, and every further detail, is in the privacy policy.

Questions or bugs?

Something broken, a word that never gets recognised, or just an idea? Let me know.
